Botswana Teen Club: A Generous Donation from DED/Weltwärts
On 28th May 2010, the DED/Weltwärts programme of the German Government donated a VW Golf Chico (pictured above) to the Botswana Teen Club programme of the Botswana-Baylor Children’s Clinical Centre of Excellence. The vehicle will allow us to become more efficient in the carrying out of our duties, including the transport of food and supplies for Teen Club events, the transport of staff and volunteers (including a year-long Weltwärts volunteer we will get later this year), and the various other daily errands that an organization of our size necessitates.
Weltwärts is a volunteer development service of the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of the
German Government in which young people gain international exposure in developing countries through volunteer work and thereby increase their intercultural competence and qualifications for their future career. As per their motto of “learning through active assistance“ value is added to the partner organisations on a sociopolitical development level, by promoting self-help programmes. The programme also intends to promote a better understanding of the nations of the world in Germany. The Deutsche Entwicklungsdienst gGmbH (DED) deploys volunteers for a period of 12 months to assist in projects of partner organisations.
Again, we are most humbled by DED/Weltwärts’ gift and, on behalf of our paediatric and adolescent patients, would like to wholeheartedly thank DED/Weltwärts for their ongoing support of our programme. Pula!
